Description
Soft, fluffy homemade sweet rolls swirled with a bright orange-sugar filling and topped with a smooth, citrusy orange glaze.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- Filling:
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp fresh orange juice
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1–2 tbsp heavy cream (optional for thickness)
Instructions
- Combine yeast and warm milk in a bowl and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add sugar, softened butter, salt, eggs, and 2 cups of flour. Mix well.
- Add remaining flour gradually and knead 5–7 minutes until soft dough forms.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Roll dough into a 16×12-inch rectangle.
- Spread butter over the dough; sprinkle with sugar and orange zest.
- Roll up tightly from the long edge and slice into 12 rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden.
- Whisk powdered sugar, orange juice, zest, and cream into a glaze.
- Pour glaze over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- Add extra orange zest for stronger citrus flavor.
- Prepare ahead and refrigerate overnight before baking.
- Use blood oranges for a more colorful glaze.
