Description
Crispy Angel Cake Churro Bites are a light, crunchy, and sweet dessert made from cubes of angel food cake coated in cinnamon sugar. Fried or air-fried to golden perfection, they deliver all the flavor of classic churros with a fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth twist.
Ingredients
- 1 (10-inch) store-bought or homemade angel food cake
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Vegetable oil (for frying, if not air-frying)
- Caramel or chocolate sauce (for dipping, optional)
Instructions
- Cut angel food cake into bite-sized cubes, about 1-inch each.
- In a shallow bowl, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon together; set aside.
- For frying: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat (around 350°F / 175°C). Fry cake cubes in batches for 20–30 seconds per side until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- For air frying: Spray cake cubes lightly with oil and air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 5–6 minutes or until golden, shaking halfway through.
- Brush or toss the warm bites in melted butter, then immediately roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
- Serve warm with caramel, chocolate, or dulce de leche for dipping.
Notes
- Use day-old angel food cake for better texture and less crumbling.
- Try baking instead of frying: bake at 400°F (200°C) for 6–8 minutes until crispy.
- For a twist, add a pinch of nutmeg or vanilla sugar to the coating.
- Best enjoyed fresh and warm for ultimate crispiness.
