Description

Extra-crispy onion rings stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese, breaded and fried until golden for an irresistible appetizer or party snack.


Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into strips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Optional: marinara or ranch sauce for dipping


Instructions

  1. Slice onions into thick rings and separate them.
  2. Sandwich mozzarella strips between two onion rings to form stuffed rings.
  3. Place stuffed rings on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes.
  4. Set up a breading station: flour in one bowl, eggs and milk whisked in another, breadcrumbs mixed with seasonings in a third.
  5. Dredge each ring in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing helps prevent cheese from leaking while frying.
  • Can be air-fried at 390°F for 8–10 minutes.
  • Serve immediately for best texture.
