Description
Extra-crispy onion rings stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese, breaded and fried until golden for an irresistible appetizer or party snack.
Ingredients
- 2 large onions
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into strips
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs or panko
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Optional: marinara or ranch sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Slice onions into thick rings and separate them.
- Sandwich mozzarella strips between two onion rings to form stuffed rings.
- Place stuffed rings on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes.
- Set up a breading station: flour in one bowl, eggs and milk whisked in another, breadcrumbs mixed with seasonings in a third.
- Dredge each ring in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce.
Notes
- Freezing helps prevent cheese from leaking while frying.
- Can be air-fried at 390°F for 8–10 minutes.
- Serve immediately for best texture.
