Description

Brown Sugar Butter Cookies are soft, chewy, and rich with caramel-like flavor thanks to brown sugar and creamy butter. These simple cookies come together quickly and bake into golden perfection with crisp edges and tender centers.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Optional: 2 tbsp granulated sugar for rolling


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls. If desired, roll each ball lightly in granulated sugar for extra crispness.
  7. Place dough balls on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden but centers are still soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
