Description
A festive and savory puff pastry Christmas tree filled with basil pesto and melted cheese, perfect as a holiday appetizer or party snack.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup basil pesto
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Fresh basil or rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
- Spread the basil pesto evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the pesto.
- Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top and gently press to seal.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into a Christmas tree shape.
- Cut horizontal strips on both sides of the tree, leaving the center intact, and twist each strip.
- Mix the egg with milk and brush over the pastry.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool slightly, garnish if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use homemade or store-bought pesto.
- You can substitute cheeses with cheddar or Gruyère.
- Best served fresh and warm.
