Description

A festive and savory puff pastry Christmas tree filled with basil pesto and melted cheese, perfect as a holiday appetizer or party snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup basil pesto
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Fresh basil or rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Spread the basil pesto evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the pesto.
  5. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top and gently press to seal.
  6. Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into a Christmas tree shape.
  7. Cut horizontal strips on both sides of the tree, leaving the center intact, and twist each strip.
  8. Mix the egg with milk and brush over the pastry.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  10. Let cool slightly, garnish if desired, and serve warm.
